EXPORT AND IMPORT
In order for Turkey to reach the growth and export figures it targets in the perspective of 2023
and to get out of the "middle income trap" it has been in for the last 10 years, it should be a
priority to develop, produce and export high-tech, in other words, high value-added products
in selected and priority sectors. This is the exact reason why the country is eager to make
things convenient for investors from all over the world.
Turkey can compete with quality, technological level and qualified after-sales service rather
than competing with cost and price advantages in the world markets.Comparing Turkey's
competitiveness with other regional countries (Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania,
Slovak Republic and Slovenia) in which Turkey competes in the world markets, as of 2016,
tobacco products, textile products, clothing, leather goods and leather goods are among the
low-tech sectors. It is seen that it has the highest competitiveness index in sectors such as
furniture. In the same way, relative superiority has been achieved in the world market in the
middle-low technology intermediate goods sectors.
While Turkey is being added to global value chains more and more over time, the rate of
foreign added value in almost all exported products, including low and medium low
technology products, is increasing. The use of imported inputs is increasing in all exports,
including the export of low and medium-low technology products.
